Farmer John's & Cedar Grove Apple Orchard

Well, our summer abruptly ended this week!  September was beautiful and warm with temps in the 70's for most of the month.  Then this week, Mother Nature decided we'd had enough warm sunny weather!  We've had cold rains all week and even lows in the 30s at night!  We've already kicked on the heat at night (for the sake of the boys since I am a walking radiator!) I think we are going to miss a tradtional fall this year.  Alex was scared to tell me the forecast for this upcoming weekend because it's calling for lows in the 20s and SNOW on Saturday!! WHAT????  Let's pray we don't get snow...that's just crazy.  I want football weather with sweatshirts and hot chocolate...not winter weather!

We hunkered down yesterday to watch the Dawgs and sadly it was a not a good ending.  The rains let up today and although it was cloudy...it was somewhat of a normal fall day.  Every year we've taken Evan to Farmer John's Pumpkin Patch where you cut your own pumpkins off the vine.  It was really wonderful to see Evan running around picking pumpkins and understanding it all.  He picked one for himself and one for Emery.  I found mine right a way and Alex's weighed in at 37 1/2 pounds!  Kallie, our neighbor, came along as she has every year!  A great tradition for her too.  Evan's next mission was to find a "Bumpy Pumpkin".  He's been talking about it all week because his daycare has a few in their fall display.  Mission accomplished.

Today's pumpkin patch!

"The Bumpy Pumpkin"

About 5 miles away, we pulled into Cedar Grove Orchards for the first time.  We had so much fun and couldn't believe we'd never been.  You are given baskets and told to pick whatever you want off the tree.  Feel free to taste and toss as many as you want.  There must have been 8 different varieties and we filled two "baby" baskets and a regular size basket.  Seven bucks later we are stocked!  After washing them and finding a bowl large enough, I felt like Diane Keaton in Baby Boom with all the apples!  Applesauce here I come!  I promised Alex I'd bake a pie too.

Oh my gosh, I can't even handle you guys are suppose to get snow this weekend, YUCK!!!! But I am glad you guys were able to get out today and have a wonderful Sunday at the pumpkin patch and the apple orchard. I have wanted to go apple picking for a long time. I am hoping we can find some time to go this year.

I loved the pics of Evan, he has changed so much over the years. What a fun tradition to have.

We are going to our pumpkin patch in a couple of weeks, I can't wait!

I am so jealous that you guys can cool (not jealous of the cold) weather. I want to go to the pumpkin patch so bad but it is in the low 90's so if we do end up going we won't go until the weekend before Halloween. We do have a big corn maze that I think we are going to do so that should be fun!

Love all the pictures of Evan...what a great tradition to take him to the same place every year and be able to record all the changes over the years.
